Evolution of Smartphones and Its Cautious Usage

Today I start to write down mobile phone brands and OEM names i could remember, as to know the wide varieties of mobile phone designs and how far it has helped GSM to evolve in a very short while. Countless of them which are mostly regionally or with high concentration in some market than the other, as opposed those that are global brands. That a brand is global or gone international those not mean their presence will be felt across the market. The recent news that Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to a robot (first country to do so) is a landmark achievement to computing and smart gadget usage. I still do wonder how Graham Bell must have felt when folks around him was making gest of him in those days that voice cannot be transmitted or pass through a wire, but as the popular saying "necessity is the mother of invention", anything that man despirately need he will always find a way to make it happen.  I could remember when GSM first came to Nigeria, when we wil...

Qualcomm Files Lawsuit To Get The iPhone Banned In China

Qualcomm Inc confirmed an earlier report that the chipmaker had filed lawsuits in China, seeking to halt the manufacture and sale of Apple Inc’s iPhones in the country (REUTERS). Bloomberg had earlier reported about the lawsuits in China. ( bloom.bg/2z6qMwu ) In its lawsuit, Qualcomm reportedly claims that Apple is in violation of three patents, none of which are essential to any industry standards — meaning Qualcomm isn’t obligated to license them. "Apple employs technologies invented by Qualcomm without paying for them,” a Qualcomm spokesperson told Bloomberg . Those patents are said to cover power management and the iPhone’s Force Touch feature. The iPhone maker has always been willing to pay fair and reasonable rates for the patents it uses, Apple told Reuters in an email: “In many years of ongoing negotiations with Qualcomm, these patents have never been discussed and in fact were only granted in the last few months,” Apple said.  In a statement Ap...

Hackers on Rampage with WannaCry: A Global Cyber Attack

In view of the recent cyber attack, officials across the globe scrambled over the weekend to catch the culprits behind a massive ransomware worm that disrupted operations at car factories, hospitals, shops and schools, while Microsoft on Sunday pinned blame on the U.S. government for not disclosing more software vulnerabilities. Cyber security experts said the spread of the worm dubbed WannaCry - "ransomware" that locked up more than 200,000 computers in more than 150 countries - had slowed but that the respite might only be brief amid fears new versions of the worm will strike. To detect if your computer is infected, you'll immediately know whether you're infected — you'll be greeted by a popup screen saying "Ooops, your important files are encrypted." And by "important," they're talking about your most commonly used files — including .mp3 audios and .mp4 and .avi videos; .png and .jpg images; and .doc and .txt documents. The worm also t...

The World's Fastest SUV With 230mph

Toyota has set the record for the world's fastest SUV as a modified Land Cruiser hit speeds of 230 miles per hour (370km/h). The turbocharged vehicle rocketed along a 2.5 mile (4km) California runway to beat the previous record of 211 miles per hour (340km/h). Dubbed the 'Land Speed Cruiser' by the daredevil team, the SUV underwent a myriad of modifications to get it up to pace. The custom-built, 2,000-horsepower Cruiser had two turbochargers added to its regular 381hp, 5.7L V8 engine to increase its power output five-fold. Alongside several other engine modifications, the SUV had wider tires and reduced suspension to boost its top speed. It took former NASCAR driver Carl Edwards just two attempts to break the SUV land speed record. Modifications to the car's volleyball-sized turbochargers allowed the racer to add 19 miles per hour (30km/h) to his first attempt. The record attempt was made at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California. In addition to being ...

Apple inc. Crosses $800 Billion Market Share

Apple Inc., the maker of iPhone and Mac computers has become the first company to cross the $800 billion market value threshold after a rise in stock price early in the week. Considered the world’s most valuable company, Apple shares on the Nasdaq exchange rose in midday trading Monday to a high of $153.70 per share. Multiplied by 5.21 billion outstanding shares, the company’s value was briefly above $800 billion. At the close of trading, Apple stood at $153.01 per share, or a market capitalisation of $797.7 billion. Apple’s 2.7 percent increase on Monday came after a positive research note from Brian White of the investment firm Drexel Hamilton, which suggested an eventual price target of $185 to $202 per share for Apple stock. If the stock price increases to $202, Apple would cross the trillion-dollar threshold. White said the valuation “has been depressed for years as investors grew concerned that Apple would fall victim to the missteps of consumer electro...

The next Google Glass will be powered by Intel

The first model might not even be on sale, but the next version of Google Glass will haveIntel inside. That's according to the WSJ , who's heard from people familiar with the matter that it will apparently form yet another part of the chipmakers continued push into wearables -- in case you hadn't heard about that before . Intel didn't quite manage to tap into the smartphone boom, with chips licensed from its rival, ARM, powering the majority of smartphones. It took until last year for Intel to finally offer a smartphone processor that could connect to 4G LTE networks. Further still, Intel aims to promoteGlass in a work capacity, pitching to hospitals and manufacturing businesses. However, but more importantly than the deal-making itself, we're still waiting to hear how Glass itself will benefit from the new hardware. Neither Intel or Google have responded to the report.

Microsoft acquires email startup Acompli

After accidentally leaking its plans, Microsoft has now confirmed it's buying email startup Acompli for an undisclosed sum. The company came to prominence thanks to its synonymous app for Android and iOS, which we reviewed favorably earlier this year. Acompli probably caught Microsoft's attention with extensive support for the company's Exchange servers. Although limited Exchange email and calendar compatibility is cooked into both Google and Apple's mobile OSes, Acompli handles tasks like creating events, responding to invites, and managing contacts more like Microsoft's Outlook than a third-party app. As such, an acquisition makes sense -- Microsoft could choose to either relabel the app "Outlook Mobile" or something similar, or use it as the foundation for a new Outlook app for iOS and Android. If you want to see what the fuss is about before Microsoft decides what it wants to do with it, the app is already available as a free download for Android and...

Jolla wants you to fund (and develop) its new tablet

Jolla phones Yesterday, Jolla teased "something big" and has just revealed what that is: the  Jolla Tablet  with Sailfish 2.0. There's just one caveat, however -- you'll have to design and fund it yourself. It's now up on  Indiegogo  with a $380,000 target, and Jolla has said that it's taking suggestions from users for features, with the best ideas  up-voted  to make the cut, Reddit-style. Those features will likely be software tweaks or other details, as all of the main features appear to be locked down. It'll have a 7.85-inch, 2,048 x 1,536 screen, 64-bit Intel quad-core CPU, 32GB of upgradeable memory, a 5-megapixel camera and a 4,300 mAh battery. The price will start at $189.

Google Nexus 6 review

Every year, Google releases a family of devices meant to showcase the best of Android and lead the way in innovation for the rest of its hardware partners. They’re sold under the Nexus brand, and they often coincide with the launch of a new version of the Android operating system. This year, Google added three new members to the family: The Nexus 9 tablet, the Nexus Player set-top box, and the Nexus 6 smartphone. I’ve been testing the latter for the past week and a half, and found it to be a powerful device deserving of its flagship status. Made in collaboration with Motorola and available this week, the Nexus 6 is the first handset to ship with the latest Android 5.0 software (a.k.a. Lollipop) — a beautiful and smart update to the platform. It also improves on its predecessor, the Nexus 5, with a faster processor and better camera. And it features a massive 5.96-inch touchscreen.
